June 2025 Newsletter

Summer 2025 Newsletter

Summer has arrived! As the school year comes to a close, many students are working diligently to write exams, wrap up final projects, and complete their requirements for next year.

Whether you’re a senior student moving on to a university or an 8th Grade student getting ready to start high school, and everyone in between, OVS has a lot of information and opportunities to offer!

IMPORTANT OUAC NOTICE: Collection Period Dates

With the midterm deadline passing, it is essential to be aware of the next OUAC deadline dates, so that you can be prepared and plan the remainder of your OVS courses out ahead of time.

The Opening Date for OUAC final grades is June 2nd 2025.

The Closing Date for OUAC final grades is July 7th 2025

To help our students ensure they are meeting these deadlines, OVS has set dates for our students to submit their work by in order to guarantee that their grades make it to OUAC by the final deadlines.

If you are a Group 1 student, you need to have your work submitted to your teacher by no later than June 5th 2025.

If you are a Group 2 student, you need to have your work submitted to your teacher by no later than June 25th 2025.

Please read below to determine which OVS Group you fall into:

Group 1 students are those who need their OVS course to graduate high school and are NOT a full-time student with OVS. Meaning that if you are attending another Ontario high school full-time and will be graduating from that high school, and not OVS, you are a Group 1 student.

Group 2 students are students who are FULL-TIME with OVS and are earning their OSSD through our school or  DO NOT need their OVS course to graduate high school (but need the course for OUAC or other purposes).

Which Group Am I?

Group 1

Group 1 students must have all work handed in by no later than June 5th, 2025. ** work will be accepted after this date however we will not be able to guarantee that the mark will be ready in time** This means that final exams MUST be written on or before this date to have a mark ready in time.

Group 2

Group 2 students must have all work handed in by no later than June 25th, 2025. ** work will be accepted after this date however we will not be able to guarantee that the mark will be ready in time** This means that final exams MUST be written on or before this date to have a mark ready in time.

Haven’t Received an Ontario University Offer?

Did you apply to university but were not accepted or haven’t received an offer? There is still time for you to find open programs at Ontario universities and apply for those open spots in time for the fall semester.

You can schedule a guidance appointment with the OVS office and we can help you find still open programs in your area of interest.

We’ll need to know what programs you’re interested in, if you have a particular university in mind, and what your average mark is in your top 6 U/M level Grade 12 courses. This information will help our staff find an open program that gives you the best chance of success with your application.

Grade 9 Technology Course

For students who entered Grade 9 in September of 2024 or later, the graduation requirements have been changed. Students are now required to take a Technology course in Grade 9 or 10 in order to complete their high school diploma.

OVS offers the TAS1O Grade 9 Technology and the Skilled Trades Online. TAS1O invites students to explore the exciting world of technological education through hands-on projects and creative problem-solving. In this course, students will engage with the engineering design cycle, develop foundational skills in a variety of skilled trades, and apply their learning through practical activities in construction, automotive, hospitality and tourism, and communications technology. Students will problem-solve, create, and reflect as they discover how technology shapes our world and their own potential in it.

Upgrade Courses

Upgrade Courses

At OVS, we want to see students successfully complete courses and be able to pursue their post-secondary goals. Sometimes, you don’t always get the mark you were hoping for the first time you take a course, and if it’s a requirement you need for a post-secondary program, it can feel like your goals might be out of reach.

However, with OVS you can repeat a course and complete it in as little as 3 weeks, which means there is still time to improve your grade to receive or maintain offers for university applications.

With an Upgrade course, you are not required to watch all the lessons, only as many as you need to refresh the material. This allows you to focus on problem areas or subjects you might struggle with, while not having to repeat other lessons that you have a solid grasp on.

Depending on the course you’re upgrading, some assignments will become optional, which allows you to submit less work to earn your final grades. However, if students need the extra boost in their marks, you can complete some optional work to try and enhance your grade.

With our Upgrade courses, it’s absolutely still possible to get the course completed and submitted to OUAC or OCAS so your post-secondary program can see it.
