As we come upon the new year, it is important to reflect on the year passed. OVS has worked incredibly hard this year to find new ways to assist our students with their education and continue to grow as a school. In this newsletter, we’ll go over our year in review, OVS highlights, OUAC reminders and more!
OVS Holiday Hours
While OVS will be generally open for most of the winter break, we will be operating on reduced hours and are closed for a few days.
- December 22 – 23rd – Open 9am to 5pm
- Christmas Eve (Dec 24th) – Open 9am to 5pm
- Christmas Day (Dec 25th) – Closed
- Boxing Day (Dec 26th) – Open 9am to 5pm
- December 27th – 31st – Open 9am to 5pm
- New Year’s Day (Jan 1st ) – Closed
- January 2nd – Open 9am to 5pm
OUAC Deadlines
As a reminder, while OVS is an asynchronous school, for Grade 12 students, you need to be meeting your deadlines for your university applications. These deadlines are non-negotiable and anything submitted after the deadline is not guaranteed to make it to OUAC in time for acceptances.
Collection Period 2: In Progress and Final Grades First Semester

OVS Scholarship Winners
The Summer McIntosh Scholarship
Winner - Alara Ataman
Alara is an International Water Polo player having competed with the Turkiye National Team in both the 2023 Water Polo European Championships and the 2024 Water Polo World Championships.
Alara is currently attending Marist University, Florence Campus for Communication and Global Marketing
The Anna Turkington Scholarship
Winner – Alexandra Toupikov
Alexandra is a deep lover of the arts, both in music and performing arts. She founded the Kingston Performing Arts Camp in Jamaica, which is a musical theatre camp for children aged 7 to 11. You can find more information on their Instagram page.
Alexandra is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music Honours in Music Education at Western University.
The Borzou Salavati Scholarship
Winner – Sunnya Ali
Sunnya has always been drawn to problem-solving and innovation, which is what led to her interest in Engineering. She achieved incredibly high marks in all of her science and math related courses both with OVS at her day school.
Sunnya is currently pursuing a degree in Engineering at Western University.
The Farhez Lakhani Scholarship
Winner – Reese Yip
Reese was part of the SHSM (Specialist High Skills Major) Council in 2023 at his day school, helping people develop their areas of interest and assisted in designing programs that allow people to work to their potential. He also worked part time at an HR consulting practice throughout high school.
Reese is currently attending Brock University for a Bachelor of Business Administration Co-op, with a specialty in HR and a minor in Labour Studies.
The Vinay Aggarwal Scholarship
Winner – Angelene Wilson
Angelene has always had a passion for science. She maintained a 93 average through all four years of high school and achieving high marks in all of her science subjects.
Angelene is currently enrolled in Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences at McMaster University
Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test
As a graduation requirement Ontario high school students need to complete the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT).
Full-Time OVS students in Grade 10 or above who are located in Ontario will be required to complete the Literacy Test.
There are two sessions for the Literacy Test.
The next Literacy Test dates are between March 23rd 2026 and April 20th 2026.
Full-Time OVS students who are not located in Toronto (so out of province or international students) can instead complete the OLC4O course.

Diwali Celebration
As part of our community outreach efforts, this past October, OVS was a proud sponsor of the Diwali Mela Presented by City of Brampton at Sesquicentennial Park, Brampton ON
The City of Brampton invites residents to take part in the third annual Diwali Mela, a free family-friendly celebration of the Festival of Lights. This year’s event showcased live performances by local and international artists, food vendors, a new drone show and a fireworks display.

Year In Review
New OVS Courses
Throughout the year, OVS is constantly adding new courses to not only to keep up with Ontario curriculum changes but also to offer our students more options when it comes to their education. Here are the courses that OVS has added in 2025.
HIP4O Personal Life Management
This course focuses on preparing students for living independently and working successfully with others. Students will learn to manage their personal resources to meet their basic needs for food, clothing, and housing. They will also learn about their personal, legal, and financial responsibilities and develop and apply interpersonal skills in order to make wise and responsible personal and occupational choices. Students will apply research and inquiry skills while investigating topics related to personal life management.
CIE3M The Individual and the Economy
This course explores issues and challenges facing the Canadian economy as well as the implications of various responses to them. Students will explore the economic role of firms, workers, and government as well as their own role as individual consumers and contributors, and how all of these roles contribute to stability and change in the Canadian economy. Students will apply the concepts of economic thinking and the economic inquiry process, including economic models, to investigate the impact of economic issues and decisions at the individual, regional, and national level.
CLU3M Understanding Canadian Law
This course explores Canadian law, with a focus on legal issues that are relevant to the lives of people in Canada. Students will gain an understanding of laws relating to rights and freedoms in Canada; our legal system; and family, contract, employment, tort, and criminal law. Students will develop legal reasoning skills and will apply the concepts of legal thinking and the legal studies inquiry process when investigating a range of legal issues and formulating and communicating informed opinions about them.
MEL3E Math for Work and Everyday Life
This course enables students to broaden their understanding of mathematics as it is applied in the workplace and daily life. Students will solve problems associated with earning money, paying taxes, and making purchases; apply calculations of simple and compound interest in saving, investing, and borrowing; and calculate the costs of transportation and travel in a variety of situations. Students will consolidate their mathematical skills as they solve problems and communicate their thinking.
BEP2OF Lancer et Diriger une Entreprise
This course introduces students to the world of business and what is required to be successful, ethical, and responsible in today’s economy. Students will develop the knowledge and skills needed to be an entrepreneur who knows how to respond to local and global market opportunities. Throughout the course, students will explore and understand the responsibility of managing different functions of a business. This includes accounting, marketing, information and communication technology, financial management, human resources, and production.
BEM1OF L’Esprit D’entreprise
In this course, students will learn what makes an entrepreneur thrive and the skills required to succeed in today’s business environment. Students will begin to develop their own entrepreneurial mindset, and learn why it’s important to take initiative, adapt to change, find creative solutions, and understand the financial considerations of entrepreneurship. This hands-on course will use business software and applications to help students plan and develop their entrepreneurial ideas and learn how to present them to a target audience.
TAS1O Technology and the Skilled Trades
TAS1O invites students to explore the exciting world of technological education through hands-on projects and creative problem-solving. In this course, students will engage with the engineering design cycle, develop foundational skills in a variety of skilled trades, and apply their learning through practical activities in construction, automotive, hospitality and tourism, and communications technology. Students will problem-solve, create, and reflect as they discover how technology shapes our world and their own potential in it
Grade 6 Language Online Course
The expectations for Grade 6 Language focuses on the consolidation of students’ language knowledge, skills, and strategies and their ability to use them independently and effectively to understand, reflect on, apply, and communicate information and ideas, and for continued learning in school and in a multicultural, multimedia world.
