Where are you from, and where did you grow up?

I was born and raised in Scarborough, Ontario, and I now live in Oshawa. My parents are from Sri Lanka, and I speak Tamil, which has shaped my appreciation for culture, language, and diverse perspectives.

When did you realize you wanted to become a teacher?

I always knew I wanted to be a teacher, especially because I loved science and math throughout elementary and high school.

Where did you go for post-secondary and teacher’s education? What did you study?

I completed my Honours Bachelor of Science at the University of Toronto, followed by my Bachelor of Education and Master of Professional Education at Western University. I specialize in Science (especially Biology) and Mathematics.

Do you prefer teaching online or in a classroom? Why?

I enjoy both. Learning doesn’t have to happen within four classroom walls — it can happen anywhere. Online learning increases access to education for students who may not be able to attend in person and allows for flexibility, independence, and personalized learning.

What is your favourite part of being a teacher?

Seeing students grow in confidence and realizing that I can play a small but meaningful role in their success. Science helps students understand the world around them, and it’s incredibly rewarding to support students as they reach their goals.

What are some of your favourite pastimes (outside of teaching)?

I enjoy reading fantasy novels, travelling, and going on long walks with my dog. I also love learning new things and exploring new places.

What is one piece of advice you would give OVS students?

Stay organized, ask questions early, and be patient with yourself. Online learning takes independence, but progress matters more than perfection — consistency and effort go a long way.

Favourite song / artist / genre:

I don’t have a favourite song… I’m usually listening to an audiobook instead!

Fun fact:

I truly believe imagination is just as important as knowledge — especially in science!
